ambassador's residence

private site

Provided with a site located only yards from the ocean, the new residence takes advantage of the picturesque surroundings to provide the ambassador with both public spaces for hosting international dignitaries and private spaces that they can call “home.”
In contrast to the more solid nature of the ground level, which is intended for the ceremonial use of hosting events with various foreign and national dignitaries, the private living areas of the second level appear much lighter due to the rhythm of solids and voids created by tall windows and terracotta clad piers that wrap the entire perimeter of the second level.

This clear visual delineation of functions both in the massing, space layout, and the need for privacy, all directly relates to the dual nature that makes the life of an ambassador so unique, and provides a building that fits the lifestyle of such an important position.
