facility parking garage

long island, new york

With a limited site on which to build, the necessity to build up, rather than out, created the need for a six story parking garage to support a new federal facility.

To screen the automobiles from view, yet still allow enough air circulation through the garage, a metal mesh screen system was employed. This creates an aesthetic backdrop for the main plaza, shields the view of the automobiles from the main facility, and softens the overall mass of the garage. The gentle curve of the façade facing the main facility is in direct response to the landscape design and the curve of the roof over the main portion of the facility.
