house for a philosopher

non-site specific

The “House for a Philosopher” is better described as a house of a philosophy. A specific idea that a design can embody, thus manipulating the relationship architecture has with those who come in contact with it and experience it. This idea focuses on the movement of an individual through a building, because a building or structure cannot be truly appreciated unless one walks through and around it completely experiencing the building in its entirety.

The floor plan of this essentially single level structure exhibits the linear nature of the building; individual “halls” terminate with floor to ceiling glazing at one end and the main, dark hallway at the other.  This main hallway is a return point from each hall, and acts as a constant environment juxtaposing the ever changing conditions of the individual halls branching off it.
